YEAR 4 Term 2 Update

This term Year Four had a taster day at Mandurah Catholic College. We got to experience “A day in the life of a High School Student”. When we first arrived we were split into 2 different coloured groups, and then another group of a different school joined each group. The green group were partnered with St Damien’s Catholic Primary School and blue group were partnered with MCC.

We did a rotation of three activities which taught us about the different subjects the school offered to the high school students.

Green group did Sport, The Learning Hub and Art. The Blue group did Science, Food and Tech Ed.

Here are some photos from the day.

Casual for Catholics Care Day

This term we also had “Casual for Catholics Care Day” where we wore our PJ’s to school to raise money to donate to disadvantaged people.

Religion

In our Religion lessons we have been exploring “Life Thought and Questions”. These questions stemmed from curiosity and interest. Some of the questioned we focused on before creating our own were:

  • How did human life begin?
  • Who planned growth from being babies to adults?
  • What is the best thing about growing up?
  • What will I enjoy most about being grown up?
  • What do I enjoy most about life now, which I could not enjoy when I was younger?

YEAR 4 Term 1 Update

Every Friday after lunch, we spend the afternoon with our Pre-primary buddies. We have all been given a Pre-Primary buddy to get to know and to whom we can be a role model. We usually go to the library after lunch and help our buddies take out a library book, and then read stories. Afterwards, we have nature play behind the convent. Miss Nolan has organised lots of fun activities. Here are some pictures of what we have been up to.

Maths

In our math classes we have been learning about fractions. By the end of the term we should know how to:
- Identify equivalent fractions
- Count by fractions, and
- Place fractions on a number line

One of our math lessons, to engage us with fractions, was an activity called “Fraction Farm”. We were given a 10x10 grid and a list of different things we could draw to create a farm. We had to count up the squares that were used to create the farm, and write it as a fraction.
